David Bush: Fire Escapes


David was born in 1948 in Slough, Berkshire. After spending over two years in hospital and one year at home with a tutor, David was sent to a residential special school at the age of eight. He remained there until he was sixteen, when he attended a mainstream college.

Here David recalls how boys would meet girls at night.

The temptation was for boys and girls to meet at night, but we used to sneak down the fire escapes and across the front lawn, or the girls would come to us, and then when our local staff wardens and all the rest of it got wind of this, they locked the fire escapes.
