Tara Flood: Dormitory Friends
Tara was born in 1966 in Preston, Lancashire. She was sent to a residential special school in East Sussex at just sixteen months of age and remained there until she was sixteen. She then returned to Preston and attended a local mainstream college.
Here Tara talks about the need for friendship away from home.

Don’t forget we were there kind of, the vast majority – I can’t think how many there must have been there, maybe fifty, sixty, seventy of us and we were all in dormitories, so beds really close together. And I think the thing that got through, how we all got through it was because of friendship, friendship between us, that had to be done kind of quietly.Explore more
