Samantha Jones: Do Something Easy


Samantha was born in 1991 in Somalia. She came to the UK to live with her aunt at age nine. She attended mainstream primary and secondary schools and then moved to Scotland to live with another aunt and study at college. Samantha is planning to continue to university.

Here Samantha describes people having low expectations of her.

I had a bit of like negative people around me and they didn’t believe in me, kind of. They didn’t really think that I could become a social worker, they were just, like, do something easy, like do IT. I was like, that’s hard. I want to do something that I know I wake up in the morning, like yeah, this is my job and I want to do this for the rest of my life, or however long I have to live.
