Micheline Mason: Scholarship


Micheline Mason was born in 1950 in Kingston, Surrey. Micheline lived with her family in Croydon, Surrey, having home tuition until the age of thirteen when she left home to attend a residential special school in Hampshire. She then went on to Art college.

Here Micheline talks about being denied her place at the local grammar school.

I got a place to the county grammar school in Whiteleaf which you kind of win scholarships where if you get this level of pass, which they wrote and told me that I’d won a place in this grammar school. And then about a few days later I got another letter saying, ‘Oops, shouldn’t have told you that, should we, ‘cause of course you can’t go.’
