Jamie Renton: Roast Dinner


Jamie was born in 1962 in London. He attended a local special school until the age of eleven when he moved to a mainstream Jewish private boarding school in Oxfordshire. From age sixteen he attended a local college, continuing on to university.

Here Jamie talks about missing home.

You can’t go home and cry, you know, that’s it, you’re there, you know, and either you sink or swim, and for the first two terms, I swam academically and sunk socially (JR p14)we used to have lessons on a Sunday and, you know, the thought of, you know, Sunday, when you knew if you were at home you’d be lying in bed and you could smell your mum making the roast dinner or whatever, you know, a nice lunch, and there we are in this cold classroom.
