Simone Aspis: ‘Special’ Carriage
Simone was born in 1969 in Dollis Hill, London. She went to a residential special school in Cheshire from the age of four until sixteen. From there she went on to college and then university.
Here Simone talks about her journey to school by train.

We used to go to school like on the train, and there was this big poster that had 'for the mentally handicapped children' on the windows. And, you know, those were the days where I was beginning to take a bit of direct action, I'd just tear the whole thing down because I was just so angry that actually, you know, I wasn’t 'mentally handicapped'.Explore more
